Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 until Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a quiet town situated in the West Island, which is part of Montreal's Island. In reality, the West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a huge region that runs from Lachine up to the west. Amanda Brugel is said to originate from the West Island. However, this does not exist. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa in Ontario. Early ambitions were to be a performer, but she was able to outgrow her dancing partners. In an article published in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. As I got bigger than my male dancers, I quit. In the case of Brugel, it was the advice of the drama instructor at her high-school that led her to start acting. The teacher was the one who advised her to audition to play the character of Anne in their annual school production. She auditioned to play the leading role in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Over the past 20 years the career of Brugel has seen her in more than 60 TV and film productions. Her most notable role was Rita (shown in the video below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actress in the season 1 which was only seen in a few episodes.
